A new way to check for the presence of Smoke of Deceit or other items in an enemy’s inventory has been discovered in Dota 2. This third vulnerability related to Smoke of Deceit was reported by the author of the Telegram channel voidslpoit.
The bug manifests itself in the description of an item previously seen in the enemy’s possession, including Smoke of Deceit. By following a specific sequence of actions, it is possible to determine if the item is still in the inventory in its original state, even if it has been transferred to a courier or placed on the ground.
At the end of January, ESL disqualified Natus Vincere Junior from ESL One Raleigh 2025 for exploiting a bug with Smoke of Deceit. It later became known that similar actions were taken by teams Tundra Esports, Team Spirit, and 9Pandas. Details of the situation are available in the article. Valve has already fixed this vulnerability twice, but players continue to find new variations of it.
