Matt Henry sustained a shoulder injury while fielding during the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa in Lahore.

Matt Henry, currently the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, injured his shoulder while taking a catch to dismiss Heinrich Klaasen. Despite the injury, he returned to bowl two overs later in the game against South Africa and was also seen fielding.

Mitchell Santner initially expressed optimism about Henry’s fitness after the semi-final. However, head coach Gary Stead has now stated that Henry’s availability for the final is still uncertain, with just over 48 hours remaining until the match.

Stead mentioned that scans have been conducted on Henry’s shoulder and they are giving him every possible chance to recover in time for the final.

He added that the situation remains somewhat unclear at this point.

Matt Henry has been a key player in the Champions Trophy, taking ten wickets at an average of 16.70. Notably, he took five wickets in the group stage match against India in Dubai, the same opponent and venue for the final.

Stead noted that Henry is experiencing soreness from landing on his shoulder and hopes he will recover.

If Henry is unable to play, Jacob Duffy, a right-arm seamer, is available in the New Zealand squad as a replacement. Duffy participated in a pre-tournament tri-series match against Pakistan, taking 1 wicket for 48 runs in seven overs.
