Queensland left-arm seamer Liam Guthrie has signed a three-year contract with Northamptonshire.
The Queensland cricketer, a left-arm seamer, utilized his UK passport to sign as a local player.
Northamptonshire secured a three-year deal with Liam Guthrie, a left-arm fast bowler from Queensland. Guthrie, aged 27, possesses a British passport and will be registered as a domestic player.
His arrival follows the appointment of the new head coach, Darren Lehmann, who described Guthrie as a ‘genuine pace’ option with the ability to swing the ball. They had previously collaborated during Lehmann’s coaching tenure with Queensland and Brisbane Heat.
“I am truly excited about the opportunity to play for Northamptonshire,” Guthrie stated. “Competing in the UK has always been a career goal, and I eagerly anticipate commencing this new chapter.”
“I am looking forward to reconnecting with Darren Lehmann, whose impact on my cricket career has been significant since our time working together in Queensland,” Guthrie added.
Guthrie, 27, debuted in first-class cricket for Western Australia in 2018 but faced challenges in securing regular playing time. He made his Big Bash League debut for Brisbane Heat in 2021, subsequently earning a state contract with Queensland.
Across 18 first-class matches, he has claimed 50 wickets at an average of 37.82, along with 27 wickets at 27.62 in List A cricket, and six wickets at 34.00 in T20s.
Lehmann commented, “We are thrilled to have Liam join us as a local player for the next three years. He offers left-arm swing, genuine pace, and having worked with him at Brisbane Heat and Queensland, his attitude is outstanding, and he possesses genuine wicket-taking capabilities.”
“He will integrate seamlessly into the group, with whom I have thoroughly enjoyed working so far,” Lehmann concluded.
