Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann is uncertain about the studio creating a third installment of The Last of Us. He shared his thoughts on a possible sequel in an interview with Variety.
According to Druckmann, fans shouldn’t pin their hopes on a new chapter in Ellie’s story. “All I will say is, do not expect The Last of Us to continue. This could be the end,” the game director stated. The head of Naughty Dog did not elaborate on his position. However, he previously mentioned that he had already prepared concept sketches for a third game, which could potentially tie the story together, emphasizing that the studio possesses creative freedom and can choose which games to develop.
The original The Last of Us was released in 2013, followed by a remaster a year later, and a remake for new-generation consoles and PC in 2022. The second game in the franchise was released in 2020, received a remaster for PlayStation 5 in January 2024, and is scheduled for release on PC in April.
