63-year-old British actress Janet McTeer is being considered for the role of Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter series adaptation. Deadline reported on discussions between the actress and HBO.

According to reports, McTeer has not yet been confirmed for the role. The actress is best known for the series “Ozark,” where she played Helen Pierce, and also for the movie “Albert Nobbs.” In addition to McTeer, HBO is in talks with another British actor, Paapa Essiedu, about a role in “Harry Potter.” Information about this first appeared in December 2024, and now, according to media reports, the actor and HBO are in the final stages of negotiations, but a contract has not yet been officially signed.

The announcement of the Harry Potter series based on the books took place in April 2023. The show’s creators will adapt the franchise written by J.K. Rowling as closely as possible, and the writer herself will participate in the production as an executive producer. It was previously officially announced that the role of Albus Dumbledore went to John Lithgow.
