According to BCB President Faruque Ahmed, Pakistan is expected to visit Bangladesh for a series of white-ball cricket matches around mid-2025.
This tour is in addition to Bangladesh’s already scheduled visit to Pakistan in May for three ODIs and three T20Is, as part of the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP). Following recent discussions between Faruque Ahmed and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, a mutual agreement was reached for Pakistan to tour Bangladesh in July or August for a white-ball series.
Faruque Ahmed stated that the PCB confirmed they would tour Bangladesh outside of the FTP. He mentioned a possible short tour in July, which is almost confirmed, and that further details will be announced upon finalization.
He also mentioned discussions about Bangladesh potentially participating in a tri-series hosted by Pakistan in the future, if the timing is suitable.
Reflecting on Bangladesh’s performance in the Champions Trophy, Faruque Ahmed indicated that the BCB will start strategizing for the upcoming 50-over World Cup in 2027, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. He believes experienced individuals like Najmul Abedin Faheem will play a key role in planning for the future of cricket in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s T20I team is also facing decisions, especially after Najmul Hossain Shanto resigned as captain in January. Faruque Ahmed suggested that the new T20I captain will be chosen from recent captains, with speculation pointing towards Litton Das.
He added that a decision on the captaincy will be made and announced soon.
Furthermore, the BCB is planning a farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently retired from ODIs. Faruque Ahmed acknowledged Mushfiqur’s legendary status and his significant contributions to Bangladesh cricket over the past 19 years, highlighting his role since 2005 and in the 2007 World Cup, setting an example for younger players.
